Dear Friend,
If you are like me,
you entered adulthood with very little training on financial matters.
Balancing a checkbook was about the only skill I learned (and I didn't
even master that!). In a relatively short period of time in my
early 20's, I accumulated thousands of dollars in debt: student loans,
car loans, credit card accounts, department store charges, and medical
bills. Several times, I reached the end of my rope and would have
to turn to my relatives for a bail out. When I was 27, pride
prevented me from asking for any more help, and I had to let one of my
cars get repossessed because I couldn't afford to repair it and also
make the car payments. That was a very bad day!
I began to search
for information on credit counseling, but the requirements to enter the
programs I found were much too strict for me. Then I decided that
I would focus on increasing my income. I got a new job that paid
much better, and everything improved--for a while. What I didn't
realize at the time was that I was doing nothing to address the
underlying cause of my situation:
I
was in the habit of spending more than I made!
Seems pretty
obvious, right? Well, until I had that "A-ha!" moment, I
did nothing about my spending habits. In fact, now that I was
making more money, I felt I could afford a bigger car payment and a
bigger mortgage. It took near financial disaster for me to wake up
and realize I needed to do something about both sides of the financial
equation: Earning AND Spending. And my debts had to go, or I'd
never get anywhere. So what did I do? I kept searching for
information: books, tapes, seminars. I finally found what I was
looking for, and applied the techniques to my situation.
The Results:
-
Income UP!
-
Debts WAY DOWN
(still have a mortgage, but nothing else)!
-
Spending DOWN!
-
Taxes DOWN!
-
Money in the
bank UP!
Sincerely,
Shawn
